An energy saving control module for warehouse lighting
The SMD-100 is an electronic control module used to switch HID lamps from high to low mode and back to high mode. Signals are received from a control device (occupancy sensors, time switches, light levels, controller, etc.) immediately activating the relay to switch to low mode or high mode. Themodule is multi-voltage and multi-wattage (depending on the capacitor used inside the fixture) due to the innovative no load switching circuitry. No presetting is required between 120V & 480V or 250W through 1000W High Pressure Sodium or Metal Halide. A fifteen minute timer built into the module prevents the fixture from switching to the low mode until the lamp has been fully energized. Thefixture will remain in the high mode if the space is occupied and switch to the low mode when unoccupied. The savings in energy are significant. The principle is to allow the lighting fixture to operate in the low mode (about 50% reduction in power) until the area is in actual use. The best applications are large distribution centers, warehouses, outdoor service areas and buildings that rely on a combination of natural light and HID lighting.
Energy Savings
Enormous cost savings in both energy and system maintenance are achieved by operating the fixtures at 40-50% of full power and light output with the ability to switch instantly to full light when needed through the use of motion sensors, timing devices, light level monitors and computer controls.
Wiring
The SMD-100 module is factory installed on any 250W - 1000W MH or HPS High Bay or Low Bay fixture. Installation is simple and fast using a 2 pair twisted low voltage wire. All signals are generated at 24V DC and therefore require no special cabling. The module can be linked to operate in conjunction with as many fixtures as required there is no limit. Alternately the fixtures can operate individually using a module and sensor on each fixture, (see wiring diagram).
Ballasts
The SMD100 High-2-Low system will only operate with a CWA type MH or HPS ballast. Supply voltages of 120 - 480V require no presetting.

A revolutionary advancement in HID metal halide lighting control, the Spartan Electronic Ballast powered by Delta Power Supply, provides inherent continuous dimming capability, and significant advantages over traditional magnetic coil & core ballasts, providing foot candle maintenance, light harvesting and demand shedding.
Spartan ARS2000 Adjustable Reflector System
The Spartan ARS2000 provides significantly more light with less energy consumption due to a unique reflector system design. The ARS2000 has an adjustable reflector system that is positioned over a standard HID lamp socket. The mechanism allows the inner and outer reflectors to be independently adjusted to provide multiple light patterns... similar to an adjustable beam flashlight. Simply adjusting the inner and outer reflectors will allow the ARS2000 to provide a specific light pattern for the area needing attention.
R-CAD Retrofit Refractor System
Immediately increase light levels by 20% - 30% by replacing inefficient metal reflectors on all mogul based High Bay fixtures with the retrofit R-CAD prismatic refractor... Achieve 96% light efficiency with 20% additional uplight. The R-CAD system is the perfect upgrade for retail stores, gymnasiums, warehouses and production facilities. Light levels can be doubled when R-CAD is combined with new lamps. Higher efficiency can be achieved with the use of CEW Pulse Start lamp technology.
CEW Pulse Start Technology
Pulse Start Metal Halide lamp and ballast systems offer significant benefits over conventional metal halide. These benefits combine to make Pulse Start the preferred light source in may applications, replacing higher wattage and HPS systems.

Installations of CEW/Spartan Lamp/Ballast Kits are to be performed only by qualified electricians and must comply with the National Electrical Code, ANSI standards and/or local electrical codes. Ballasts must be installed only in fixtures that have a UL listing for that ballast/fixture combination in accordance with UL 1572 High Intensity Discharge Lighting Fixtures.
Extreme caution should be used when increasing lamp wattage and/or changing lamp type. There are two areas of concern when doing this. One is the thermal rating of the ballast; each ballast has a UL 1029 temperature code, which is listed in the CEW Lamp/Ballast Reference Guide. The UL listing of the fixture would be void if a higher temperature rated ballast was installed. The other concern is the fixture distribution. Reflector/refractor designs are often source dependent, and a source change may affect fixture distribution.
Contact the fixture manufacturer to address both of the above concerns. Fixture labels sometimes show maximum wattage and types allowed by UL
